The Court of Appeal

The pickets’ appeal was listed for a two-day hearing, on 3-4 February 2021, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. It was the middle of a national lockdown due to coronavirus. Despite this, pickets Terry Renshaw and John McKinsie Jones, Campaign Researcher and Secretary, Eileen Turnbull, Campaign Chairperson Harry Chadwick, and Mark Turnbull campaign member attended the hearing in Court 4, together with the campaign’s legal team. Danny Friedman QC was on his feet for the whole of the first day putting the pickets’ case and on the second day gave a lengthy response to the arguments presented by the Crown Prosecution Services barrister, John Price QC.

We had to wait for six weeks for the three appeal court judges to hand down their judgment. On 23 March 2021 they decided unanimously that the pickets’ convictions were unsafe and had to be quashed. Against all odds, we had won!
